4 Things That Every Resilient Person Knows

by Jamelle Sanders

Have you ever felt at the end of your rope?

Have you ever been working really hard on a goal and you just feel like you have given it everything that you have?

Have you been in the midst of a crisis that you weren’t sure you’d be able to get through in one piece?

Often, in our attempt to fulfill a desired goal, we are left feeling depleted. We have given so much of ourselves to the completion of a goal that we are left completely exhausted.

However, inevitably, adrenaline somehow kicks in, and we find ourselves accomplishing more than we ever imagined possible.

resilience

What is that adrenaline? Where does it come from?

The thing that kicks in when we feel that all our strength is gone and we feel depleted is resilience.

Resilience is the having the stamina to bounce back from life’s setbacks—a drive that is unrelenting, that declares defeat unacceptable. It’s a refusal to be shaped by the situations and circumstances that occur in life.

When you are resilient, you are not fazed by life’s pressures. You are able to get through them stronger than ever.

But how do we make resilience kick in when we truly need it? Here are four things every resilient person knows.

What You Should Know About Resilience

1. Every human being on Earth has it.

So many times we think resilience is something that only a select few possess. However, it’s not reserved for the elite.

Resilience is proven not in the high points of our lives, but in the low points. It is through adversity that we discover resilience.

We hear stories of mothers moving cars to save their children. We hear stories of fire fighters risking their lives to ensure everyone escapes a burning building. We hear of soldiers fighting for freedom and demonstrating amazing heroism in the face of great odds.

There’s something about adversity that awakens the champion in us all.

2. Resilience is not something that should be underestimated.

Many times, when we find ourselves in the midst of a crisis, we immediately begin to panic.

However, when we respond with courage instead of fear, we are able to do the impossible. Courage is an essential element of resilience—an act of faith that annihilates the seed of fear.

3. Resilience will unlock your potential.

The human spirit is resilient, but somewhere along the way, we feed our fears and starve our faith. We forfeit our potential because we forget how powerful we really are. We believe our circumstances, and we never give ourselves any room to change them.

Then, in those moments of crisis, resilience is awakened within us. It is resilience that reminds us that we were created to conquer. Resilience does not accept the possibility of defeat. Resilience decides the victory—and it will unlock your true potential.

The Takeaway

Your response to life must be resilience. You can rest assured that you will encounter adversity. Adversity should never alarm us, but simply awaken us. When you realize that resilience is the tool that champions use to reign in life, you will change your response—and your life.
