The Watch That Gives Back

People can tell what kind of man you are by the watch you wear. Do you want to play it safe and fit in with the in-crowd?  If so, don’t read any further.  Because the watches profiled here are anything but normal. They’re made out of wood. That’s right, wood. Like the kind that comes from a tree.  And that’s exactly what We-Wood will plant for each watch they sell.  From We-Wood themselves:

Wewood watches

WEWOOD lets us rediscover nature in its beauty, its simplicity and inspired design. It reminds us of a tree’s powerful way of life; rooted, yet reaching.

Completely absent of artificial and toxic materials, the WEWOOD Timepiece is as natural as your wrist. It respects your skin as you respect nature by choosing it. Your WEWOOD Watch breathes the same air that you breathe and may awaken memories from another time and place. Your WEWOOD Watch records your sensations and shares your experiences as the perfect natural mate, whose story also becomes yours to wear, smell and feel.

Rebuilding an Endangered Ecosystem – One Tree at the Time

The first timepiece was designed in Florence, Italy (2010) and with the widespread craving for newstalgia and eco-friendly ethos, WEwood hit the scene as the avant-garde approach to sophisticated sustainability. A few months later, WEwood opened a branch in Los Angeles, CA and teamed up with tree-planting-partner, American Forests.

With this happy pact, the goal is to help restore Mother Nature, one watch at a time, by planting a tree for every WeWOOD purchased. In just the first three months, WEwood planted 5,000 trees with American Forests, and sets challenging targets for 2012 and beyond. Keeping forests healthy and happy keeps us healthy and happy, we like to keep our reminder on our wrist.

So if you’re trying to avoid the nice-guy moniker, don’t buy a wood watch.  Or buy one, just don’t tell anyone the secret behind it.
