How to Do the Perfect Kettlebell Swing

by Pat Flynn

The kettlebell swing is an exercise where you thrust your hips forward, like my bean friend below. The idea is to burn calories and also to build power and strength while at the same time shaping the buns a little bit. This study found the kettlebell swing burns as many calories as uphill cross country skiing. Isn’t that something?

Now many people do not do the kettlebell swing right – some people will squat when they swing or use a rounded back and look kind of hunched over. What you really want when you swing is to push your hips back like you are trying to make an impression on somebody and then you just snap them forward, like I’m doing right now. Did you catch that? Well what I did was I essentially jumped but only didn’t leave the ground, I stayed put, actually. Let me show you a couple videos so you can see.
