Discussion of Your Concerns and Expectations
Once your paperwork is complete, your dentist and their dental assistant will ask you a few questions to learn more about your medical history. They will ask whether you’ve had any previous dental work and identify your main concerns or queries.
Dental Examination and X-Rays
The next step in your initial dental consultation involves an in-depth examination of your teeth and gums.
Your dentist and their assistant will take a close look inside your mouth to search for signs of decay, gum disease, or oral cancer to ensure there are no concerning features that need immediate treatment. During the examination, the dentist might use various tools and equipment to enhance their view of inside your mouth.
If your dentist feels it’s necessary to do so, they will take X-rays of your teeth and jaw bones. These dental X-rays provide your dentist with additional information and visuals that they can’t achieve manually, enabling them to determine the extent of your dental issues or provide a diagnosis.
Teeth Cleaning
The dentist or dental hygienist will give your teeth a professional clean using specialized tools. The aim of this cleaning process is to remove built-up plaque and tartar from your teeth, and it usually only takes five to ten minutes to complete.Your dentist might also provide some guidance and advice on how to brush your teeth and rinse your mouth effectively to ensure you remove as much plaque and food debris as possible.
